The Iconic FK Chair Celebrates 50 Years

The FK Chair, designed by Preben Fabricius and Jørgen Kastholm for Walter Knoll, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

The FK was designed in 1967, when bucket chairs were becoming increasingly popular, and has since become a design classic. Its unique form has clear contours and perfect lines.

The bucket seat and the three-star base offer the ultimate combination of comfort and practicality. In 1969 the armchair was awarded the first federal style prize for “Gute Form” (Good Shape) and became an icon of minimalism in design.

Today, the FK is also available with five legs on castors. The lounge version of the chair has a lower seating height inviting the sitter to read, dream and relax.

Danish interior designers Preben Fabricius and Jørgen Kastholm devoted themselves to optimising shape, material and ergonomics. In 1961, they founded their studio which became the birthplace of numerous furniture classics.

Their main concern was to clearly state the function of an aesthetic form. This principle resulted in lasting symbols of modernity.
