09 Jun LUMISPHERE™: THE ANSWER FOR ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING
When it comes to architectural lighting getting the right result isn’t easy but one company that are the leading the way is Lumisphere™.
Lumisphere Products create bespoke decorative lighting for architects, designers, retail chains, ship builders and more. All of their lighting systems and products are low energy, durable and versatile. As well as easily adapted to suit all types of structures.
Dressed up for the night, buildings and structures take on a new identity after dark with Lumisphere™ systems that do so much more than just provide light.
From historic theatres to modern shopping centres, Lumisphere™ lighting lends itself to versatile designs to project whatever effect or mood you want to create.
Discreet and durable fixings and cables on their lighting festoons make them unnoticeable both in daylight and at night, while the lights themselves serve to enhance the architectural qualities of the buildings.
Over the years a number of projects have demonstrated just how Lumisphere™ lighting lends itself to architectural design. We’ve selected some of the projects below:
- HARRODS, KNIGHTSBRIDGE LONDON
As a listed building, this project involved a sympathetic approach to festoon lighting and fixing methods. On this particular project, Lumisphere™ used their bespoke Terrocota system cable and the Lumisphere X24 large Harness System.
Over the years the X24 lighting festoon has been transformed to promote special events. An example of this is when Liz Hurley switched on the pink lights at Harrods for their breast cancer awareness campaign. Later on Lumisphere LFM flashing lamps were used to celebrate Peter Pan in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital. Harrods was transformed into a twinkly array of independent flashing lamps, which required no control equipment.
- GENTING CLUB, KNIGHTSBRIDGE
This project involved a lot thought. The client required a subtle lighting scheme but still wanted the ‘wow’ factor that would compete with ambient light sources.
In order achieve this look Lumisphere™ used their small harness ECO LED lights in warm white. The lights reflected the harmony with the stonework and met the client’s requirements perfectly – the end result gave the ‘wow’ factor they were after whilst remaining subtle.
- KALININGRAD EUROPA SHOPPING MALL
The Lumisphere Large Harness System used in this project was specifically sourced to be able to withstand extreme high and low temperatures, one of the main requirements of the buildings lights.
The lighting selected needed to be unobtrusive for the light stone architecture. In order to achieve this look, Lumisphere™ used their UL listed and IP68, rated white lamp holder and white system cable that is UV stabilised.
The end result was an impressive statement that is practical to withstanding the changing Russian climate.
- MEADOWHALL SHOPPING CENTRE, SHEFFIELD
Lumisphere™ has been a part of many refurbishments of Meadowhall shopping centre. The building was originally fitted with the large harness X24 festoon lights, in 2012 it undertook a refurbishment of approximately 2000 cool white retrofit LEDs.
The retrofit offered the solution of replacing lamps without the need to replace the 24V transformers.
Currently the shopping mall is undergoing a major refurbishment that Lumisphere™ is once again involved in. They are replacing the entire exterior decorative lighting with a full Orbical 360/8 system consisting of approximately 1000 LED units. The results can be seen from the M1 Motorway.
- HEATHROW WELCOME WALL
To achieve the slow wave effect on this project, Lumisphere™ mounted the LEDs on variable height anodised poles.
The striking results on the Heathrow welcome wall used the bespoke 20V LED DMX controllable system. The wall was installed with DMX controlled blue, green and white LEDs.
6. LUNA PARK, SYDNEY
The patented Lumisphere™ trusted system was the obvious choice for this extensive project. Approximately 20,000 cool white Lumisphere™ LED’s light up this Sydney foreshore attraction.
After many years of branding the Lumisphere™ X24 system, local government energy initiatives encouraged this popular destination to invest in LED technology. The photometric and energy certifications commissioned within the Australian market satisfied the governing bodies and funding was approved.
- SALAD BAR, HARRODS, LONDON
Lumisphere™ fitted Carnival Cool white ultra-bright festoon lights into the ceiling of the Salad Bar in Harrods.
The cool white was used to enhance the customer experience and reflect off the cutlery. For this particular fitting, a fully dimmable system was required to adjust to surrounding light sources.
